Few things to keep in mind

1. STEP is not employment in ThoughtWorks, it is a internship program. On successful completion employment is offered.
2. Only polytechnic diploma holders are eligible to join STEP.
3. There is no stream restrictions like only CS or IT people can join. Any one with polytechnic diploma in India can apply.

Given these facts the selection process is also very unique.

As per process it starts with an online apitude test followed by an telephonic interview and then F2F interview.

Online Test

For online test you need understanding of basic Maths, Reasoning and English. Any book which covers these subjects is good enough.(If you think you need a book)

Telephonic Interview

If you are selected then you will be getting a call and asked basic things like family, interests and about yourself. You will also be given a chance to ask your questions.

You need to talk genuinely and show your eagerness because intention behind this call is to know about your attitude.

Interview

After that comes the interview which will be in one of the ThoughtWorks India offices.

Considiring the above points given in starting

The enviorment will be very friendly and challanging as well. Most of the questions will be asked from those areas where you claim to be good. Most of the time they start with basic mathematics and drive you through another areas.

The subject area can be anything. They seek your ability and hunger to learn things. It is not expected that you know everything. So, You will also get help if they found you are stuck.
